RIM is getting serious about India, makes its move

Yesterday, Research In Motion announced its most affordable smartphone from it’s Blackberry 7 lineup, exclusively for customers in India. The Blackberry Curve 9220, will cost around Rs.10,990.
They believe this will help boost sales, as this price point seems to attract entry-level and younger consumers. We might have expected this.Their past advertising, seems to show their desire to portray Blackberry a not just a brand for enterprise users but also youngsters and the general public (remember the Blackberry Boys?).

Features:
  • A dedicated BBM button
  • Wi-Fi access
  • Built in FM radio
  • Social Feeds, RSS
  • the typical QWERTY keypad
  • battery life is 7hours of talk time, or
  • 28 hours of music playback with headphones
If you purchase it before June 30, 2012, RIM offers these customers 2500 rupees (around $50)worth of apps.
All in all this is definitely a good move for RIM, albeit one thast should have happened long ago. But with a good entry level device like this, RIM will be sure to bring new users into the Blackberry family.
